Treed sites near the river, plantation near park entrance. Irrigated 9-hole grass greens golf course, licensed clubhouse, recreation building, concessions and new swimming pool. This park is located on the South Saskatchewan River just 21 kilometers south of Eston, on Highway 30. Open from late May until the end of September, the golf course may stay open, depending on the weather. This in a beautiful river valley with charming old elms. An old schoolhouse is the local recreation center, complete with patio and enclosed deck. Services The park’s concession is open from 11 am – 9 pm. The nearby town of Eston offers all of the amenities. This is a quiet little park is great for families to enjoy its many splendors. Local History This park’s origin dates to 1949, when a local man incorporated the Eston Riverside Pool and Playground, Ltd., and sold shares locally for $100 each. From the $8,000 he raised, a pool was built and opened that year. By 1965, it became apparent that the park required a great deal of upgrading if it was to remain viable. The original stock company was dissolved in 1967 and Eston Riverside became a regional park, sponsored by the town of Eston and the RMs of Snipe Lake and Newcombe. Over the years, the success of the park has been attributed to the many local volunteers whose diligence literally made the park. Nearby on Highway 30 is a marker commemorating the Old Cart Trail from Saskatchewan Landing to Red Deer Forks, worn deep by nineteenth-century traders. Visitors will also enjoy the Prairie West Historical Centre, a renovated pioneer home, circa 1919-16, that includes period rooms and several exhibition areas that are changed each year, along with an art gallery in the basement. Campsites There are 18 Full Service sites, all of which have power, water and sewer. There is also 20-15amp Electric Sites, and 10 non-electrified sites as well as group camping. All sites can be rented for weekly or monthly rates. The tenting and non-electrified sites are naturally mounded and graded, while the full hookup sites have graveled pads for the units and a small lawn upon which to place your picnic table. All sites have picnic tables, pole barbecues or fire pits, and trashcans. Firewood is available for a fee, water taps in the campgrounds do not provide drinking water; that is available from a central tap by the concession. Toilet facilities are generally excellent, with modern facilities in the shower house and biffies on the golf course. All the facilities are wheelchair accessible, from the bathrooms to the hall, canteen, and mini-golf. Pets are allowed but must be leashed at all times, and no reservation system is in effect. Quiet time from 11 pm – 7 am is strictly enforced. Swimming A fine outdoor swimming pool offers swimming lessons and diving equipment for park patrons. Lessons are offered in July. The pool has change rooms and showers, and reasonable rates for public swims. There are also bleachers available for the parents to use while lessons are taking place. Play Area Just beside the fenced pool enclosure is the playground, with swings, slides, and a six-seat rocking horse, all on a huge lawn that includes the day-use picnic ground. Fishing The river flows beside the park and offers angling. There is no boat launch, but one can put boats in at the ferry, some 10 km away. There are no docking facilities, but one can simply beach the boat beside the park as needed. All watercraft is allowed through the park gates. Golfing There is a fine, irrigated nine-hole grass-green golf course available for patrons and a licensed clubhouse, putting green and a driving range. The Golf Course has a total yardage of 3341y from the white tees with a par of 36, While playing from the Red Tees the yardage drops to 2605y with a par of 33. It it sloped for men and women and will present a challenge in its prairie setting! Ball Diamonds There are two ball diamonds in the park, both with red shale infields and grass outfields. They have bleachers, tall mesh backstops on metal poles, and short mesh home run fences. Park Map Check out our interactive map!
